Loch Avon showing the well known Shelter Stone Crag. This view followed a long trek up Glen Avon from the Queens View car park at Tomintoul of around 18 miles. I was able to do about 3/4 of this journey by bike but the last few miles were only footpaths. It was after dark when I returned to the bike having left this viewpoint at 5.30 pm when it was starting to go dark. Thanks to my eTrex GPS I was able to locate the bike when I saw the reflectors about 200 yards away in the torchlight. I rode the remaining 15 miles back to the car park with my cycle light showing the track ahead and to the aery sound of stags bellowing across the glen.
